McGuinty announces $80M electric car charging program

First Published:

On the heels of last week’s announcement that toyota will build its electric RAV4 in Ontario, Premier Dalton McGuinty was in Markham Tuesday to reveal his plan for getting those cars on the road.

McGuinty was joined by Tourism Minister Michael Chan and local MPP Helena Jaczek to announce an $80 million investment in the development of electric car-charging stations.
The money will help ensure charging stations are conveniently located for drivers looking to make the switch to an electric car.
The premier had the chance to test one out himself:
“They are peppy, they are quiet, and the thing that I like best as a father, and ultimately a grandfather, I would hope, is that they’re clean. So we want to make it convenient and realistic, and possible for families to consider an electric car a viable alternative.”
The province hopes to have one out of twenty cars in Ontario electrically powered by 2020.
