Fire crews in Niagara Region battled a massive house fire for nearly two hours Friday morning.

Niagara Falls’ deputy fire chief Ken Henry said it happened around 5 a.m. on Crowland Ave. north of Young Rd.

Paramedics brought the homeowner to the hospital to treat his minor burns and smoke inhalation. First responders said the man was the only person home at the time of the fire.

Multiple vehicles were also destroyed in the fire. Damage is estimated at $1.5 million dollars.

One tanker from Welland and two tankers from Fort Erie were called to help the Niagara Falls Fire Department extinguish the blaze.

Henry said the cause of the fire is unknown at this time. He said the Ontario Fire Marshall will be notified.
