The city of Hamilton is shutting down the Sydenham Road escarpment access in Dundas over “urgent erosion concerns.”
The access will be closed to all traffic for roughly two or three days starting Wednesday while crews address erosion and slope stability issues.
The city says the concerns were raised through a routine maintenance review and need immediate attention “in the interest of public safety.”
There is no detour set up for the closure and motorists are being asked to stay away from the area.
“The City understands this closure is challenging due to both the geography of the Sydenham Road access and other construction in the area, however this work must be done immediately in order to avoid a slope failure along Sydenham Road,” said the city in a news release.
The closure will be happening at the same time as the closure on Hwy. 8 and city staff says it will likely create a long detour for drivers.
The access is expected to reopen to traffic each night around 7 p.m. while workers are not present.
