Hamilton police are investigating a Friday night stabbing in Stoney Creek that sent one woman to hospital.
A heavy police presence shut down part of Queenston Road near Nash Road after a woman was stabbed just before 11 p.m.
Officers say the victim, an adult woman, suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and remains in hospital.
Investigators believe the incident was isolated, but the scene left many nearby business owners stunned.
“These kinds of incidents – they tend to knock you off your socks. And it’s a little bit difficult for — you know, for the businesses to operate in this kind of situation,” said Sam Jay, a local business owner.
Some residents who live nearby say they’re growing frustrated at the number of incidents that have been happening around the area, particularly at the Red Rose Motel.
“We see people doing drugs, murder — everything. And it’s so bad around this area because the children are going to see them,” said Shaunna Johnson, a resident at a nearby apartment building.
Police presence remained at the Red Rose Motel Saturday morning with investigators arriving to secure the area.
The Hamilton police forensics team also arrived sometime around noon to begin their work to complete the investigation.
Authorities have not released any suspect information and are asking anyone who was in the area around 10:45 Friday night to come forward.
