WATCH: Vigil honouring Belinda Sarkodie held in downtown Hamilton

VIDEO: A vigil will be held in downtown Hamilton at 5 p.m. to honour 26-year-old Belinda Sarkodie
Dozens gathered in downtown Hamilton Friday evening to mourn 26-year-old Belinda Sarkodie, an innocent bystander who was killed in a brazen daylight shooting last week.
The vigil was held on the roof of Jackson Square mall, near the corner of King Street East and James Street South, just feet away from where Sarkodie was shot and killed.
The manhunt continues for the 17-year-old suspect Hamilton police believe is responsible for the shooting.
The brazen daylight shooting took place at around 5:30 p.m. last Friday, where Sarkodie was waiting for a bus at King Street East near James Street, when a shooter opened fire.
Hamilton police say Sarkodie was an innocent bystander and believe the three men that were standing near her at the bus stop were the intended targets.
One man was treated in hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
Sarkodie is a recent immigrant from Ghana, who was studying and working in Hamilton at the time of her death.
Flowers have been placed at the scene in her memory.
Police are searching for a teenage suspect, and the court order allowing the minor’s name and photo to be shared ended Friday.
Early Thursday morning officers raided a home in central Hamilton, believed to be connected to the teen – he was not arrested.
Sarkodie is the second innocent bystander to be killed in recent months. In April, 21-year-old Harsimrat Randhawa was shot while waiting for the bus on Hamilton Mountain.
Hamilton Police Service Chief Frank Bergen said he’s been in contact with Sarkodie’s family in Ghana through the consulate general.
“They sent their kid to Canada to have a better life, this is not a better life,” said Bergen. “All of us have to speak up, we have to say that gun violence is not acceptable, and it’s absolutely not acceptable in the hands of a teen.”
While Sarkodie’s friends and family mourn, Hamilton police say the investigation is ongoing, as they continue to search for the teenaged suspect.
A GoFundMe was created to raise money to pay for Sarkodie’s funeral costs and can be found here.
