A vigil is being organized for the innocent bystander killed in a shooting in downtown Hamilton.

The vigil is set for Friday evening exactly one week after 26-year-old Belinda Sarkodie was shot while waiting for a bus at King and James streets.

Sarkodie came to Canada last year from Ghana and was working in Hamilton.

There’s a growing memorial for her at a bus shelter in the downtown core.

The Ghana association of Hamilton and others are organizing a vigil for Sarkodie on Friday from 5 p.m. until 6 p.m. at King and James Streets.

Organizers are also working to help her family in Ghana “navigate the situation in Hamilton”.

Police continue their search for the shooting suspect.

They’ve received special court approval to identify 17-year-old Mackale Lavoie.

He’s wanted for second-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder.
