According to Prime Minister Mark Carney’s office, U.S. President Donald Trump has agreed to finalize a new economic and security agreement with Canada by mid-July.

In a formal summary of Carney and Trump’s G7 meeting on Monday, the two leaders agreed to begin negotiations on a deal within the next 30 days.

The summary also says Trump and Carney discussed ongoing hot topics such as critical minerals, defence, border security, and gun and drug smuggling.

Trump spoke to the media Monday morning saying that a trade deal with Canada was in the cards, even if he and Carney had differing opinions of what the deal would look like.
