A verdict expected Friday in the second-degree murder trial of a young Hamilton man who killed his teen cousin has been adjourned until Nov. 26.
In July 2023, 22-year-old Lawrence Bistoyong stabbed Mark Bistoyong with a kitchen knife after a dispute at a family gathering on Hamilton Mountain. Mark was 16 years old at the time of his death.
Family members testified in court that the boys had been playing basketball and the game got out of control prior to the stabbing.

Lawrence has been undergoing court-ordered mental evaluation for months and has been found to have schizophrenia.
“In our view, the alcohol and marijuana were not the drivers of the events of that day, but rather the voices in his head and his schizophrenia,” forensic psychiatrist Dr. Gary Andrew Chaimowitz told a courtroom earlier this week.
Sentencing was expected Friday at the John Sopinka Courthouse in Hamilton.
This is a developing news story. More to come.
