A traditional longhouse in Six Nations of the Grand River held a grand opening yesterday three years after a fire destroyed a 17th-Century Indigenous replica of the wooden structure.

The Oshweken Longhouse at Kayanase on Highway 54 — traditionally named Ganohsa’o:weh — featured free guided public tours over two hours.

The bark-covered, shingled building was a gathering for communal dwelling.

Kayanase is a greenhouse and ecological restoration company that specializes in native species plants.
It offers a variety of amenities including yurt rentals, walking paths and a pavilion area with an outdoor kitchen and covered seating.
