Tiger Cats home open weekend has Hamiltonians buzzing with excitement

Excitement is on the rise tonight as football is returning to Hamilton tomorrow with the Tiger Cats taking on the Saskatchewan Roughriders in their home opener at Hamilton Stadium.

The surrounding neighbourhoods are sure to be buzzing as the home open weekend approaches.

You only have to walk around for a few minutes near the stadium before you can tell… Ticats fans are everywhere.

“The best way for me to describe a Hamilton Tiger Cats fan is loyalty,” said one man. “They’re pretty loyal.”

That loyalty is on full display on the streets and homes of community members living near the stadium.

Former Ticats linebacker Simoni Lawrence says those type of loyal fans are what makes the team special, and there’s no doubt what tomorrow will be like.

“You know what the atmosphere is in Hamilton and where everyone comes together, and the community as a whole comes to one big spot to have a fun, great time,” Lawrence said.

The Tiger Cats are coming off a loss to the Calgary Stampeders last week in their first game of the season, but fans say it’s a new week and they have hope.

“I think it’s going to be a really good season,” one community member told CHCH News.

“We’re pretty excited. I was talking to some of the neighbours and we’re pretty excited. We think the Ticats are going to kill it this year.”
