Transport Canada has announced recalls on 20,000 Lexus, Toyota and Subaru SUVs over problems affecting the vehicles’ windshield defrosters.

The recalls impact Toyota BZ4X and Lexus RZ models from 2023 to 2025, as well as 2023 and 2024 Subaru Solterras.

“On certain vehicles, a software problem could cause the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system to enter a failsafe mode. As a result, the heater could stop working. If this happens, the windshield defroster may not work properly,” the recall statement read.

The report added that the problem could cause an EV system malfunction or cause a drive start control malfunction to display a message.
