The speed limit on a number of area highways, including a stretch of the QEW between Hamilton and St. Catharines will remain at 110 kilometres an hour. The province is also increasing the speed limit on even more highways.

The project included a total of 6 Ontario highways, but two others up near Muskoka will see an increase as well on a trial basis.

The province says 82% of people surveyed two years ago supported the increase.

The majority of drivers CHCH News spoke with in Niagara are happy that the speed limit will be staying at 110 km an hour, but there are a few admittedly tentative drivers who say 100 km’s an hour is plenty fast enough.

The province says both the speeds and collision trends have remained similar to highways that are still at 100.
