Students and teachers get ready for school as summer winds down

The countdown is on. In less than 48 hours many students and teachers will be back in the classroom as summer comes to an end.
CHCH’s Sean Cowan spoke with many people Sunday who said they are looking forward to seeing their friends and getting back into a routine, but the school work, not so much.
Back to school shopping is in full swing at Lime Ridge Mall in Hamilton, but soaking up some sun on Burlington Beach was also on the to-do list.
“I mean, I don’t really want to go back to school but at the same time I kind of do,” said one student.
“I’m just trying to make them enjoy the last day before school. I’m here with the family. Once it’s school time, we are not really going to be going to the beach,” said a mother.
Tuesday is the first day back to class for many students all across Ontario, and some say making a good first impression is key
“I went for a haircut and I got a low tapered fade,” said another student.
“I’m here shopping for my son who is about to go into grade 8. We’re buying shoes. I’m buying shoes because he doesn’t like coming to the mall. We have to get him the Air Jordans,” said one mother.
Many teachers are also getting ready for Tuesday.
“I’m super excited to get back into the classroom, get back into the routine of chatting with the kids, seeing how their summer was,” said one teacher.
Julie Cole is a mother of six and has some advice for the big day.
“I think the most important thing to do is, whatever can be done the night before, do it the night before. So I’m talking pack those lunches, get the clothes laid out, whatever needs to be done. Morning is no time to be organizing and running around … nobody wants to be nagging their kids starting off the day on the wrong foot,” said Cole.
And if you didn’t get your back to school shopping done Sunday or you want to spend some more time at the beach, Monday is a holiday. So there is still a little bit of time before Tuesday.
