A local charity that’s been helping Syrian refugees settle into their new life in Canada got a makeover this weekend.
Volunteers were at the Safety Net in Oakville for three days over the long weekend, giving the charity a fresh coat of paint and getting its shelved and racks organized. Safety Net is a free clothing bank, which also offers tutoring and music classes for young people. As well as tents for homeless people.
And as thousands of Syrians have arrived in Canada, the people at Safety Net have been there to help.
Safety Net also offers free makeovers and clothing for people who have job interviews lined up.
Some people are surprised to find out that a charity like this is necessary in an affluent town like Oakville, but officials at Safety Net say many residents are struggling to survive these days.
