Road closures expected as Hamilton promises infrastructure upgrades

As part of ongoing infrastructure and road safety upgrades, the City of Hamilton has announced several road closures for the coming weeks. Here’s what you need to know.
Queen Street North
From Aug. 15-17 Queen Street will be closed from York Boulevard to Cannon Street. Motorists north of York Boulevard will only be able to travel westbound. York Boulevard will remain open with one westbound lane, and drivers will still be able to turn left onto Queen Street heading south.
From Aug. 21-24, Queen Street will be closed from York Boulevard to Barton Street. York Boulevard will remain open with one westbound lane.
Sherman Access
The Sherman Access will be closed from Aug. 16 at 8 a.m. to Aug. 17 at 8 p.m. Traffic will be detoured to the Jolly Cut and Kenilworth accesses.
York Boulevard
From Aug. 18-22, eastbound lanes on York Boulevard will be closed between Dundurn Street and Bay Street North. Traffic will be detoured via Dundurn Street to Main Street to Bay Street.
Closures will begin at 9 a.m. to minimize impact on rush hour traffic. One eastbound lane will be open nightly.
Wilson Street and Wentworth Street
Wilson Street will be closed at Ashley Street, and Wentworth Street will be closed from King Street to Century Street from Aug. 18-29. Local access will be temporarily closed, and transit lines that run through the area will be detoured.
McMurray Street
From Sept. 2 – Oct. 30, McMurray Street will be fully closed to vehicles between Hope Street and Hatt Street. This work is part of a bridge replacement project.
The Spencer Creek Trail will also be closed at McMurray Street. Local access to the trail will be maintained via Kemp Drive, and pedestrian access will be allowed when safe to do so.
