Hamilton firefighters responded to reports of a structure fire at 5 Vance Cres., Friday morning, where luckily no one was reported injured.

First responders reported arriving at the property at around 5 a.m., to see a fully involved garage fire attached to a two-storey detached home.

Hamilton Fire Asst. Deputy Chief Shawn De Jager says crews found that the fire extended into the house with heavy smoke conditions throughout the building.

Firefighters successfully fully extinguished the fire, and ventilated and overhauled the scene.

Jager says there was extensive damage to the garage and the main floor of the home. The suspected cause of the fire was careless disposal of smoking material.

The damage was estimated at $500,000.

He says all residents of the home had evacuated the building safely.
