Police arrest woman wanted for setting St. Catharines woman on fire in her sleep

Niagara police have arrested a woman Monday afternoon who was wanted for lighting a woman on fire during her sleep in St. Catharines.

Three people had allegedly broken into a woman’s apartment in the area of Vine and Scott streets at around 11 p.m. on Aug, 16, and set the woman on fire while she was asleep.

Paramedics rushed her to the hospital with serious burn injuries to her face and upper body.

At around 1:35 p.m. on Monday, officers had located 37-year-old Rebecca Daigneault from St. Catharines in the area of Queen Street and Welland Avenue.

Daigneault was arrested and charged with criminal offences including failing to comply with a probation order, breaking and entering and committing an indictable offence, and for attempted murder.

Daigneault remains in custody and is scheduled to attend a bail hearing Tuesday at a St. Catharines courthouse.

Investigators had arrested 25-year-old Chassidy Archer and 30-year-old Moises Medeiros, both of St. Catharines, last week.

Archer was charged with attempted murder and for break enter and commit an indictable offence.

Medeiros was charged with attempted murder, carrying a concealed weapon, break enter and commit an indictable offence, and two counts of failing to comply with a probation order.
