The OPP have seized over 11,000 cannabis plants in Norfolk County valued at $11.5 million following a Cannabis Act investigation.

On April 24 the OPP and the Provincial Joint Forces Cannabis Enforcement Team (PJFCET) went to a location in St. Williams, Norfolk County following a referral from Health Canada regarding cannabis being grown illegally.

Assistance was provided by the OPP Emergency Response Team and the OPP Urban Search and Rescue, Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosives Response Team.

Investigators located and seized approximately 11,475 illegal cannabis plants, as well as 75 pounds of dried, processed cannabis.

Police say the investigation is currently ongoing, and charges will be laid if applicable.

The PJFCET is an OPP-led joint forces operation that includes members of the Niagara, Durham, London and Windsor police services and the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario. The PJFCET’s role is to enforce and investigate illegal cannabis incidents and focus on the apprehension of those who produce, sell, distribute, import/export and use cannabis outside of the parameters of the law.

Anyone with information regarding the illegal sale or production of cannabis should contact the OPP non-emergency number at 888-310-1122.
