One person dead after police-involved shooting, SIU notified

Peel Region Police say one suspect is dead after a shooting involving an officer in Mississauga.

Police say the Special Investigation Unit, the watchdog which investigates incidents involving death, serious injury, sexual assault, or firearm discharge involving police, has been notified.

“The SIU is investigating,” said SIU spokesperson Kristy Denette. “I have limited info at the moment.

“Our investigators are en route to the scene. I will be there to address reporters tonight when I have information to share.”

Investigators initially said officers responded to a report of a stabbing in the area of Winston Churchill and Britannia Road at 2:30 p.m.

They say the victim was transported to a local hospital.

Police didn’t provide further details about the shooting.
