No injuries after small bomb found on foot path in Oshawa, Ont.

Police in Durham Region say Canada’s defence department was called in Wednesday to help remove a small Second World War-era bomb that was found on a foot path in Oshawa, Ont.

Police were called to the scene near Gibb Street and Centre Street South just before 4:30 p.m. for a report of a suspicious package with wiring and warning labels on a walking path.

Police say the force’s explosive disposal unit found what appeared to be a “military ordinance” and all pedestrians were evacuated from the immediate area.

Police say an explosive disposal specialist from the Department of National Defence went to the scene and confirmed it was a small bomb from the Second World War era.

They say defence officials and police removed the bomb, and it was taken to a military base to be rendered safe.

Police say there were no injuries reported and an investigation is ongoing.
