Niagara police have arrested a man from Lincoln Wednesday, who allegedly tried to lure a child for a sexual purpose.

Officers began a proactive investigation in March targeting people in the community who allegedly use the internet to connect and meet with children for a sexual purpose.

Investigators say a man had used the internet to talk with who they thought was a girl under 16-years-old, but who was in actuality an undercover detective.

The man had planned to meet with the girl at a pre-arranged location Wednesday.

He was instead arrested by detectives from the Internet Child Exploitation Unit and the Technological Crimes Unit who were waiting for his arrival.

Police have charged 50-year-old Marco Iasci of Lincoln with luring a child via telecommunication to facilitate the offence of sexual interference.

Iasci remains in custody and is scheduled to attend a bail hearing at a St. Catharines courthouse Thursday.

Detectives believe Iasci used usernames “Justinn3232” or “Justinn3838” on online platforms to commit offences against other children on the internet.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Niagara Regional Police Service at 905-688-4111.
