Niagara Health hosts event for mannequin that simulates childbirth

Niagara Health introduced a high-tech interactive mannequin that can be used in emergency simulation events earlier Wednesday.
“SimMom” allows staff to practice childbirth emergencies in a safe environment.
Niagara Health says SimMom bridges the gap between theory and practice. By simulating the emergencies, SimMom can increase confidence levels, identify areas for improvement and improve team communication.

Elizabeth Bailey, a nurse at Niagara Health, says the SimMom mannequin imitates a real pregnant woman in many ways.
She has the ability to breathe, move her chest, bleed, have seizures and push as if she is actually giving birth.
Niagara Health also has plans to create a “Sim baby” to simulate both sides of childbirth.
