Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment (MLSE) is parting ways with Raptors President and Vice Chairman Masai Ujiri after 13 seasons.

In a statement released Friday morning via X, the Toronto Raptors organization announced the split.

The organization says “key personnel” will remain in place while the search for a new team president begins.

His departure, which occurred a day after the NBA draft and just before the start of free agency on Monday, has raised some eyebrows.

Having concluded the recent season with a 30-52 record, the Raptors have now missed the postseason for three consecutive years.

Ujiri originally joined the team as general manager in 2013, coming from the Denver Nuggets. In the season he joined the Raptors, he won the NBA’s Executive of the Year Award.

He was the president of the Raptors during the 2019 championship run. Ujiri helped usher in Kawhi Leonard, who was a pivotal piece of the championship winning team.

Under Ujiri’s leadership, the Toronto Raptors became the first and only team outside the United States to win an NBA championship.
