Mazza suing for one million

The former CEO of the province’s air ambulance service says Ornge still owes him one million dollars in bonuses. And he’s countersuing for the money.

Mazza claims he was supposed to receive bonuses by February 2012. That’s around the time he was ousted from Ornge amid allegations of financial irregularities. Ornge is suing Mazza over a board-approved $500,000 housing loan he received in 2010 while working at the organization. It argues that Mazza defaulted on the loan because he wouldn’t pay it back. And he tried to sell the Toronto home he bought with the money without Ornge’s consent.

Mazza denies Ornge’s claims saying it wasn’t a loan but an advance payment of his bonuses. Ornge, which receives $150-million a year from the Ontario government, is currently under a criminal probe.
