When U.S. Steel bought the former Stelco plant in 2007, the company promised to maintain certain production and employment levels. Monday, a spokesperson for current industry Minister James Moore told CHCH News: “This is a business decision by U.S. Steel; the government does not get involved in the day-to-day decisions of companies. The government’s settlement with U.S. Steel contains commitments which provide Economic Benefit for Canada.”
