Thousands of students and teachers in our area returned to the classroom Tuesday for the first time since the summer break.

Just after 3:00 p.m. Tuesday afternoon students were let out at St. Teresa of Calcutta on Hamilton mountain as today was their first day back in the classroom.

But it wasn’t just the first day for students.

“I would rather be sleeping. We talked about where you would rather be this morning and everyone said they would rather be in bed so we have that in common but we had an awesome day. They are happy to be back, happy to see their friends,” says Jennier O’Shea, a teacher.

“I love what I do and I love the job, I love seeing the children back, I love seeing the staff,” says Carla Mckeen, an educational assistant.

And according to the principal the first day was a hit.

“Excitement first of all, tons of positive vibes, positive energy, just a real excitement to be back at school and enjoy the first day and meet new friends and meet old friends. It was so great,” says the principal of St. Teresa of Calcutta, Jeff Zwolak.

And while many school boards went back Tuesday, Halton public and catholic schools go back tomorrow. So another first day for many on Wednesday.
