Horse dies, seven others injured at Welland farm: police investigation

Niagara police say they are investigating an occurrence of animal cruelty in Welland that left one horse dead and seven others injured.
Officers say they received a report on Thursday from farm staff during their morning routine that they found several horses were injured with what appeared to be cuts or stab wounds.
One horse was found diseased, another was transported to a veterinary hospital for care and several others received treatment at the scene, according to police. .
Investigators say the farm was located near Buchner Road and Highway 140 in Welland and is used as a horse boarding facility.
Police say they are continuing to investigate this incident.
Investigators are appealing to the public for assistance. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Niagara Regional Police Service at 905-688-4111, option 3, extension 1009487.
