Scorching temperatures to stick around until Friday
The heat wave drags on and on.
Our region has been dealing with scorching temperatures since the beginning of the month.
The Golden Horseshoe won’t see any relief until Saturday.
We’re expecting showers and finally temperatures under 30C.
The longest string of days with temperatures 30C or above in Hamilton is 11 days, between Aug. 26 to Sept. 5 1973, according to Environment Canada.
Public health officials say anyone can be affected by the heat but those at extreme risk are:
- those age 65 and older
- young children
- people with chronic medical conditions
- people who work and are active outdoors
To stay cool:
- Stay indoors in air conditioned buildings
- Plan outdoor activities during cooler parts of the day
- Rest often in shaded areas
- Never leave infants, children or pets in a parked car
- Drink plenty of fluids
- Dress in cool, loose clothing and shade your head with a hat or umbrella
Some pools and splash pads are now open in Hamilton, Halton, Halidmand County and Niagara Region, with more opening up later in the month.
There will be reduced capacity and new policies because of COVID-19.
There are also cooling centres open with physical distancing measures in place.
