Hamilton school celebrates Sainthood
A school in Hamilton is celebrating Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha being declared a saint with a special green-friendly event.
Students from Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Elementary School decked out in commemorative t-shirts Friday and tended to their peace garden in honour of Kateria, who’s the patron saint of ecology.
She is the first aboriginal from North America to receive the church’s highest honour.
Pope Benedict announced her canonization in February.
More than 2,000 pilgrims are expected to fill St.Peter’s Square in Rome this weekend for the celebration.
