Hamilton police charge 5th person in murder of Danielle Strauss

Hamilton Police have arrested the fifth suspect in connection with the murder of 38-year-old Danielle Strauss.

Detectives learned on Dec. 31 of the 16-year-old suspect’s plans to travel from Czechia back to Canada.

Police were able to make the arrest later that day at Pearson International Airport.

Police say the suspect was not extradited and his legal counsel worked with him to come back to Canada to turn himself in.

Strauss’ body was discovered on Nov. 10 at approximately 11 a.m. inside her apartment at 195 Ferguson Ave. North. Detectives believe she died three or four days before her body was found.

Police say the cause of death is not being released as it remains evidence.

The 16-year-old youth had a brief court appearance and has been remanded into custody.

The other suspects include a 15-year-old girl and a 16-year-old boy who were arrested on Nov. 28 on a Hamilton bus and charged with second-degree murder in connection with this case.

The fourth arrest of a 42-year-old woman happened on Dec. 7, just a day after officers charged a 40-year-old woman. Both women have been charged with accessory after the fact of murder.

Police say the charge against the 42-year-old woman is related to the 16-year-old boy in custody.
