Hamilton police have charged a 16-year-old boy who drove off the escarpment in the early morning hours April 3.

The crash happened around 1 a.m. in the area of Mountain Brow Boulevard and Fennell Avenue.

The 16-year-old driver missed a stop sign and continued heading east bound on Fennell Avenue through the intersection. The vehicle then went through a barrier, over the escarpment and down 100 feet.

Investigators say the foggy weather conditions were likely a factor in the crash.

As a result, the 16-year-old driving the vehicle has been charged with careless driving and carrying more passengers under age 20 than is statutorily permitted by his G2 licence.
