Hamilton police arrest teen after 9-month-old baby bear-sprayed during home invasion

Hamilton police have arrested one teenager and are searching for another person after a family and their 9-month-old baby were bear-sprayed during a home invasion.
Around 2 a.m. Wednesday, police were called to the scene of a large fight at a home in the area of Upper Paradise and Stone Church Road.
Officers learned that a 15-year-old boy from Hamilton and another unknown person broke into the home after arriving in a stolen vehicle.
After forcing his way into the house, the teen began spraying bear spray. The family inside was affected, including a 9-month-old infant.
Police say the youth also assaulted four of the residents with a knife, causing minor injuries. The two intruders were eventually forced out of the home and held one of them down until police arrived.
Investigators have not confirmed whether the 15-year-old is known to the family.
The teen, whose name cannot be released, was arrested and charged with the following:
- Assault with a weapon x 4
- Administering noxious substance with intent to cause harm x 4
- Break and enter
- Failure to comply with release order x 4
- Failure to comply with youth sentence x 7
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
Officers continue to search for a second suspect, who is described as a white male wearing all black clothing.
