Hamilton Mayor Andrea Horwath hospitalized following accident-related injury

Hamilton Mayor Andrea Horwath’s office has released a statement saying she is receiving treatment in hospital after “sustaining an injury in an accident.”

On Tuesday afternoon, Mayor Horwath suffered multiple injuries after falling on the stairs outside City Hall amid windy conditions.

“She is currently undergoing surgery for a broken wrist and is being assessed for additional injuries including an elbow fracture and leg injury,” the statement read.

“Mayor Horwath remains in good spirits and is in regular communication with her team. We thank Hamiltonians for their continued support, understanding, and well wishes.”

The mayor’s office says that Horwath will be resting and recovering at home from the remainder of the week.
