The Bell Homestead’s Halloween Fun Fair in Brantford brought spooky, family-friendly fun on Sunday.
Alexander Graham Bell was the first to patent the telephone in 1876. One of the first known long-distance calls was made from the Bell Homestead outside of Brantford to neighbouring Paris.
That’s just a little of the history the cartoon characters, witches and superheroes could learn Sunday at the Bell Homestead Hallowe’en Fun Fair.
“We’re hosting our annual fun fair which is something we do every year just before Halloween. It’s an event kind of reminiscent of the old fashioned penny carnivals, fun fairs, that type of thing,” said Brian Wood, Bell Homestead Curator.
The team at the Bell Homestead expected up to 500 kids and their parents to come through Sunday.
“It’s pretty good for kids of all ages. There’s lots of things to do. It’s outside. And you get to check out the house and the business office as well,” said one mother.
And while it’s a really old house, the day isn’t meant to be scary at all.
“We wanted an event where even the little kids can come and have a good time and not be totally spooked out,” said Wood.
While there are lots of fun games for the kids to play, there’s also an opportunity to learn about the Bell Homestead and the invention of the telephone.
And you couldn’t ask for better fall weather if you tried.
