Flood watch issued for area near Twenty Mile Creek in West Lincoln

The Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority (NPCA) has issued a flood watch for some areas of the Niagara watershed ahead of forecasts of precipitation Tuesday evening.

The Thorold-based federal office says water levels near Twenty Mile Creek in West Lincoln, near the escarpment, remain high and approach local flood elevations.

It says the melting snowpack and recent rainfall, and saturated soils across the watershed leads to higher runoff potential from upcoming rain.

The conservation authority is urging residents to stay away from creeks, rivers and all waterbodies at this time due to slippery slopes and elevated water levels.

They encourage residents to make sure drainage on their properties are open and not hindered by blocked culverts, catch basins or ditches.

The NPCA’s jurisdiction relates to the Niagara Peninsula, the southeastern part of the City of Hamilton, and the eastern portion of Haldimand County.
