Five people hospitalized after head-on crash on Hwy. 140 in Welland

Five people are in hospital after two pickup trucks collided head-on Thursday on Highway 140 in Welland.
Welland Fire Platoon Chief Steve McQueen tells CHCH News that crews responded around 3 p.m. to the crash on the highway, just north of Buchner Road.
He says a man driving a white pickup truck collided head-on with a silver pickup truck that was hauling a trailer carrying four horses.
According to McQueen, the silver pickup appeared to be travelling at a low speed, possibly preparing to turn onto Buchner Road.

Paramedics transported the man driving the white pickup truck to hospital. There is no word yet on the extent of his injuries.
Four people in the silver pickup — including some teenagers — were also taken to hospital as a precaution.
The horses were transferred to another trailer by their owners and taken to a veterinarian for assessment. McQueen says they appeared to be uninjured.
Ontario Provincial Police have closed Highway 140 in both directions while they investigate.
This is a developing news story. More to come.
