Eastwood Arena clear to reopen in September, close again next year

The City of Hamilton says Eastwood Arena, which has been closed since March, will reopen again in September, but will close again in 2026.
The arena at 111 Burlington St. East had closed its doors in March after an isolated section of the roof deck above the arena floor was found to be rotting.
The facility was closed until a full investigation could be completed.
The Hammer City Roller Derby, the Hamilton Ball Hockey Association and the Hamilton Lacrosse Association – groups that used the space and were affected – were successfully accommodated at other venues while the arena was closed.
Consultants hired by the city performed moisture probes at four roof locations and deemed the building safe to resume normal operations.
The consultants say that while the arena can safely resume normal operations, short, medium and more long-term investments are required.
The building will require ongoing monitoring, maintenance and rehabilitation work over the next three months, to the longer term of five years.
The preliminary cost to maintain the current building function is over $3 million.
The arena will reopen in September, but is planned to close again in the summer or fall of 2026, and will eventually be replaced.
