Driver flees, passenger seriously injured after car hits tree in St. Catharines

Niagara police are investigating a collision in St. Catharines in which a passenger suffered serious injuries after a stolen truck collided with a tree.

The collision happened around 2:04 a.m. at Queenston Street and Hartzel Road.

Police say the driver fled on foot after the incident. The passenger, a 44-year-old man from St Catharines, was transported to hospital with serious injuries.

Officers suspect that the 2017 Dodge Journey that was involved had been stolen from a local business shortly before the crash.

Investigators and the K9 unit were at the scene this morning, but the roads have since reopened.
