Cost of 2024 cyberattack on Hamilton’s city hall almost doubles to $18.3M

The cost of the cyberattack on Hamilton city hall’s systems last year has almost doubled to $18.3 million, according to a new report.
As of Oct. 11, 2024, the city committed to spend a total of $9.6 million to recover from the cybersecurity attack that happened in February 2024.
Now the city says, as of June 30, the cost is up to $18.3 million.
In the report, the city says $14 million went toward experts who are advising on recovery and training for prevention.
The city also says recovery efforts remain ongoing and more costs are expected.
The report with this updated cost is expected to be presented to council’s General Incidents Committee on Wednesday.
