It’s a chance to walk down nostalgia lane, meet some of your favourite TV and movie stars and maybe buy a comic book or two.

Hamilton Comic Con is in its 13th year at the Hamilton Convention Centre.

There are two things stars had to say: they love Hamilton and it never gets lost on them how connected their fans are to their work.

Hamilton Comic Con is a chance to dress up as your favourite character from the big and small screen, shop for iconic souvenirs, take a peak behind the curtain to see how some movies are made and meet stars like Canadian actor Kim Coates.

The Saskatoon native has a long list of movie and TV roles but the one he says that stands out the most is Sons of Anarchy.

Coates says that’s when everyone knew him and that he’s Canadian and he’s proud of it.

“I play golf in Burlington at Mount Nemo – that’s my track. I have a lot of pals that live at Ridgeway and St. Catharines. I seem to always be in Hamilton.”

“We never imagined it would be big like this,” says Jason London, star of Dazed and Confused.

London says when the movie first came out 30 years ago, the cast never knew how big a following they were going to get.

London is amazed at the generations of families coming out to meet them.

“At the very end of the movie, we’re out on the football field and I’m yelling at dawn to get OTSS, only the strong survive. That was actually my Coach Kendrick in high school. He would say that to us.”

Now London’s DeSoto high school, south of Dallas has another moment to remember.

“8 years ago I did the same show. Now the show has exploded and grown,” says the yellow Power Ranger, Karan Ashley.

Ashley says it was a project she moved on from but always comes back to because of its popularity.

“This show is special to so many people. It’s a part of their childhood and now it’s a part of their children’s childhood,” Ashley says.

“Multiple 6 figures, multiple 6 figures,” says James Ponce, Vice President of Hamilton Comic Con.

That’s how much organizers say it costs to host Comic Con.

They say fans travel from across the GTHA to stay overnight, eat, shop and travel, all of which benefits the city.

“We’re going to have around 10,000 fans this weekend which is always our goal every year,” Ponce says.

Actor Kim Coates says that he is switching gears by starring in a rom-com with Kevin James and Andrea Bocelli. The movie will be called Solo Mio and is expected to come out on Valentines Day.
