Canadian public health officials have issued a recall notice for certain “Puppy Love” and “Puppy World” brand dog treats after it was discovered they were contaminated with salmonella bacteria.
Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the treats and dispose of them with their regular household garbage.

Officials say the contaminated treats can make pets sick after eating. Symptoms to watch out for include vomiting, diarrhea, decreased appetite, fever, or excessive salivation.
Some pets may not show any symptoms, but can still spread infection to other animals and humans.
If your pet has eaten a contaminated product and is showing symptoms, contact your veterinarian.
Salmonella can also spread to humans after handling the product, especially if they have not washed their hands after contact with their pet’s food and surfaces.
Healthy people who have been in contact with the bacteria are advised to monitor themselves for vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, abdominal cramping, and fever. Rarely, exposure to salmonella can cause severe illness.
