A new global report says Canada’s record-breaking 2023 wildfires drove air pollution to its highest levels in decades, raising concerns about the long-term impact on Canadians’ health and life expectancy.

Christa Hasenkopf, Director of the Clean Air Program at the Energy Policy Institute at the University of Chicago, warns worsening wildfire smoke linked to climate change is becoming a major public health issue.
