Friday night’s World Series Game 6 at the Toronto Rogers Centre is the hottest ticket in the country Thursday, with resale prices on Ticketmaster ranging from just over $2,000 all the way up to more than $10,000.
The news company Front Office Sports says this will be the most expensive ticket prices for a Canadian sporting event in history.
CHCH News Anchor Matt Ingram spoke with Olan Scott, an Assistant Professor in Sport Management at Brock University, to bring in his view on the tickets’ high prices.
Scott said the “once-in-a-lifetime” event of seeing the Blue Jays potentially winning the World Series, over 30 years since they were last in the competition, is the biggest factor in why the prices have gotten so high.
Ingram asked if it was surprising that amid an affordability crisis, people were buying tickets despite the high cost.
Scott reasoned that fans equate seeing a Blue Jays World Series game to going on a vacation, and are willing to make sacrifices and compromises to see them play.
Ingram asked him if Canadians had just caught “Blue Jay Fever” or if it is a reflection of something deeper going on in the country.
