Brebeuf beats Newman in hockey classic

There was an instant high school hockey classic Thursday at the Andreychuk arena.

Cardinal Newman and Brebeuf for the Hamilton Catholic League boys hockey championship. Early third period, a goal by Dom Procopio gives Brebeuf a 5-4 lead. Late 3rd period, the Cardinals Josh Agostino steps around a defender and rips a shot into the net to tie the game 5-5 with 3 minutes to go. This one went to overtime, and here’s how it ends; Matt Hogan, dekes around two defensemen and fires home the game winning shot.

The Brebeuf Braves, who finished second to Newman during the regular season, finish first on this day. A 6-5 final. Brebeuf advances to a GHAC semi-final game next week.
