Brantford police are searching for a driver who fled after a high-speed crash involving a stolen truck early Sunday morning.

Officers say a silver GMC Sierra was seen speeding south on Ninth Avenue at around 4:30 a.m., before crashing into a tree on Erie Avenue.

Investigators later learned the truck had been stolen from Langton, which was using stolen Brantford plates.

A 37-year-old woman at the scene was arrested and charged with possessing stolen property over $5,000.

Police say the driver ran off before police arrived.

They are looking for a white man, with short brown hair, who was last seen wearing jeans and a dark-coloured hoodie.

Detectives posted on X late Sunday evening, asking residents for any video of the Eagle Place neighbourhood from 4:30 a.m. to 5:30 a.m.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.

Information can also be given anonymously to Brantford Crime Stoppers by calling 519-750-8477 or 1-800-222-8477, or online at their official website.
