Brantford police recover firearm after man found sleeping in vehicle

Brantford police say they have recovered a firearm after finding a man sleeping in the front seat of an idling vehicle.

On Feb. 21 at approximately 7 a.m., officers were conducting a proactive patrol in the area of Stanley and Dalhousie streets when they came across what they’re calling a suspicious vehicle.

As authorities approached the vehicle, they observed the wooden stock of a rifle in plain view in the rear seat.

The man was removed safely from the driver’s seat and arrested without incident.

Further investigation led to the discovery of approximately 3.7 grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine in the man’s possession.

Along with that, over 240 rounds of ammunition were located inside the vehicle.

As a result, a 21-year-old man from Pickering, Ont. is facing the following offences:

  • CC 94(1) Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in Motor Vehicle
  • CC 91 Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
  • CC 86(1) Careless Use of a Firearm
  • CC 86(2) Careless Storage of a Firearm
  • CC 100(2) Possession for the Purpose of Weapons Trafficking
  • CC 145(4)a) Fail to Comply with Undertaking – Police Release
  • CDSA 4(1) Possession of a Controlled Substance – Crystal Meth
