Autoworkers protest outside GM investors meeting in Windsor

The head of Unifor has told autoworkers from across Ontario that the union isn’t giving up on General Motors’ Oshawa assembly plant without a fight.
Jerry Dias delivered a fiery address to autoworkers at a rally in Windsor Friday morning, just across the river from the Detroit GM headquarters. He says GM’s decision to close the plant at the end of the year is a clear case of corporate greed.
The move is expected to put more than 2600 people out of work.
Unifor bussed in protesters from across the province, including Kitchener, Brampton, London and St. Catharines. Dias also warned GM management that next week’s auto show in Detroit could be inundated by a flood of disgruntled workers.
Friday’s protest happened just hours after GM announced it’s expecting profits for 2018 to be higher than anticipated and it predicted an even brighter outlook for 2019.
This is the latest action union members are taking to protest the plant’s closure. On Wednesday, unionized workers at the Oshawa assembly plant staged two work stoppages.
