Advanced polling for Hamilton’s Ward 8 byelection has closed and on Monday from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m., residents will be able to cast their votes and elect a new councillor to represent one of Hamilton’s most populous municipal ridings.

There is a record-setting total of 26 candidates running in this race, all vying to replace what was once MP John-Paul Danko’s seat at city hall.

Ward 8 is home to 36,000 residents.

Its footprint stretches from the escarpment on the north, to Upper Wellington Street to the east, Garth Street to the west and a hydro corridor to the south.

The seat opened up back in April, when the former councillor won the federal race as a liberal for the Hamilton West – Ancaster – Dundas riding.

Residents may only vote only if they are a Canadian citizen, who is at least 18-years-old, a tenant or property owner in Ward 8.

More details about the election can be found on the city’s website.
