Twelve commercial trucks were removed from the roads and 36 charges were laid after Niagara police cracked down on road safety violations this week.

Police say the enforcement blitz, which took place on Monday, Sept. 22, was in response to community concern about “increased commercial motor vehicle traffic in Lincoln and West Lincoln.”

The focus of the initiative, they claim, was to identify commercial vehicles that were intentionally bypassing the Vineland Inspection Station on the QEW and to conduct in-depth inspections on the vehicles to ensure compliance with provincial safety regulations.

Officers inspected 36 vehicles, 12 of which were removed from the highway after showing significant safety risk.

A total of 36 charges were laid, including:

  • Overweight (3)
  • Having defective brakes (8)
  • Improper daily inspection (7)
  • Expired annual inspection (1)
  • Expired permit (6)
  • Insecure load (1)
  • Improper CVOR (1)
  • Over dimensions (1)
  • Improper/expired licence (1)
  • Improper/no insurance (3)
  • Improper vehicle maintenance (1)
  • Other offences (3)

Niagara police says it remains “committed to achieving its identified goal of enhancing road safety.” Anyone with traffic complaints is asked to contact the Traffic Enforcement Unit at 905-688-4111, option 3, ext. 1025555.
