HAPPENING NOW:

Mental Health Strategy

Canada is set to get its first-ever national mental health strategy this week, after five years of work by the Mental Health Commission of Canada.

The strategy is meant to address the funding and service delivery issues that undermine the millions of Canadians living with mental health problems.

The Harper government will be under intense pressure to implement the strategy, since the Conservative government commissioned the work in the first place.

The strategy won’t be officially released until Tuesday, but there are reports it will call for psychological health and safety standards in the workplace, and to divert people with severe mental health problems out of the justice system.
